Political Promotional Items

So without divulging who I voted for a few days ago, I thought I would comment on the state of promotional products being used by both of the main presidential campaigns. In the old days, my father used to sell a lot of this stuff (affectionately known as trinkets and trash). Mostly buttons of course and those obnoxious bumper stickers that irritate the driver behind you and take years to peel off your car. Well times have definitely changed. Not only can you order plain old buttons from each of the candidate websites but you can order them in a plethora of designs and get this - even designs made for your own state!.

Caps, signs, stickers, lapel pins, buttons, shirts, tote bags, water bottles - the list goes on and on. Man what we wouldn't give to have either of these accounts in our Adcentives West portfolio! I was blown away by the online store featured on Senator Obama's website. Maybe this is one of the reasons his campaign has raised so much money! Not only is the store more extensive than Senator McCain's, it's actually quite hip (do the kids still even use that word). Heck, there is even an entire section called "Hope Gear"! And for those who love music you can buy a "Yes We Can" CD with songs by all of your favorite artists (if you are a democrat of course).

Check out the section of apparel quite tastefully called "Runway to Change". Half of the items no longer even have a picture because they are already sold out! So if I had to pick an election winner based on their promotional products tastes - I would have to call this one for Senator Obama in a landslide. Sorry Senator McCain.
